In part one Students begin their classical painting training by working on an ancient color wheel or “Mandala.” The exercise teaches the student about transitions and collisions and coordination with different brushes, how to apply the paint, when to use medium and working with glazes.

In part two of the class students will reconstruct an old master painting which further develops the ability to see color and form. As the students progress, they will learn sight-sizing and work with plaster casts. Sightsizing is a renaissance method of accurately drawing an image on canvas the same size it is viewed. Once the drawing is perfected, the class’ primary focus will be on application of paint. How to use various brushes, mixing paint and learning to “see.”
